Restaurant recommendations near Freedman’s

lunch & sandwiches downtown boston

This is one of the more random blog posts I will write, but it’s a question customers ask daily.

Where should we get lunch?

Many people make a day or an afternoon out of coming to Freedman Jewelers or the Jewelers Building.

Here is a list of lunch & dinner places I recommend for weekdays.

Quick / Casual Lunch:

Sam Lagrassa’s: 44 Province St. Boston, MA

This might be the best sandwich place in Boston.  Unbelievable pastrami, corned beef & turkey sandwiches.  Really good daily specials.  Even their salads are great, go with the grilled chicken Caesar salad.  If you go on a Friday, you must try their homemade Mac n’ Cheese.  Portions are big so either split with family & friends, save half for later or risk of a “food coma” after you eat.   Lines can get long but they move quick.  Sam’s is open 11am-3pm Monday – Friday.

Chacarero: 101 Arch St. Boston, MA

The menu is limited, really only one sandwich with a variety of ingredients you can add, but it sure is good.  Chacarero is a Chilean sandwich shop with the “chacarero sandwich” being their signature dish.  The sandwich is composed of either tender beef or chicken (or both), muenster cheese, avocado spread, green beans, sliced tomato and hot sauce on thick, freshly baked bread.  Chacarero is open for lunch on weekdays.

Delicato: 8 City Hall Square Boston, MA

A classic cafeteria style deli located a block away from our office.  Good wraps, sandwiches and daily specials.  I recommend the chicken salad wraps and their paninis.  Open for breakfast & lunch on weekdays.

Milk Street Cafe:  50 Milk St. Boston, MA

A classic cafe a block away Freedman’s.  Milk Street Cafe is semi-kosher (no meat or poultry).  Milk St. is known for their soups, paninis, fish specials & quiches.  Many of their dishes change daily.  If you can wait for a later lunch, everything is 20% off from 2pm – 3pm.

Cafe de Boston: 75 Federal St. Boston, MA

Cafe de Boston has everything.  Fresh, tossed salads with unlimited vegetables, sandwiches, a pizza, pasta & salad bar and more.  Everything is fresh and tasty here.  The prices aren’t too bad either.  The best tossed salad deal in town which includes 2 proteins and unlimited vegetables and other salad additions.

Food Trucks:

They are all the rage nowadays!  There are so many of them and they are all so good.

Check out the food truck schedule here:

The closest locations to our store are Government Center, South Station and the Financial District.  Some of my favorite food trucks include Clover (vegetarian)  Bonme (Vietnamese) & Staff Meal (Unique Tacos & Burritos)

Sit down lunch / dinner for weekdays & weekends

Elephant & Castle: 161 Devonshire St. Boston, MA

An Irish pub located 2 blocks away from Freedman’s.  A good selection of beers on tap and standard Irish bar food including burgers, stews, meat pies & salads.  Open for lunch & dinner.

Scholars: 25 School St. Boston, MA

An American bistro with a loaded menu full of a huge selection of food & drinks.  A good variety of salads, burgers, fish & chicken dishes and appetizers.  Located a block away and gets busy at night.

Ruth Chris Steak House : 45 School St. Boston, MA

Enjoy yourself and splurge.  Ruth Chris is next door.  Great steaks and a great location in Boston’s old city hall.  Go for it and order one of their sizzling steaks.  They also have very good salads, seafood entrees and sides such as sauteed mushrooms, creamed spinach & mashed potatoes.  Sit in the bar room!

Silvertone: 69 Bromfield St. Boston, MA

Trendy & sort of divey, this place has great food & cocktails.  Located in a basement a block away on Bromfield street, Silvertone is famous for their a couple of signatures dishes and their reasonable prices.  Their famous dishes include their steak tips and their mac n’ cheese.  You should try both!

Here is a list of places I recommend for weekend lunch.

Many of these restaurants close on the weekends, but several try to capitalize on the less amount of competition and stay open on Saturdays.

These include:

Eat Kitchen: 260 Washington St. Boston, MA

Fresh salads & sandwiches.  Good choice of hot & cold sandwiches and tossed salad bar.  Open on weekdays and Saturdays for lunch time.

Fast Food Restaurants:

There are numerous fast food chain restaurants in the area that are open weekdays and weekends.  These include McDonald’s, Subway, B. Good, Boloco, Chipotle & D’Angelos subs.

I hope this blog post helped you plan your visit to Freedman Jewelers.  There are a lot of great food options.  There is an overwhelming amount of places to eat in the area, these are my personal favorites that are close by.  If you go a couple blocks further there are some other great places such as Casa Razdora, Viga, Al’s and more!
