March Birthstone: Aquamarine

by Josh on March 2, 2011

We’re marching through the year.  Warm weather is just around the corner.

This month’s birthstone is the stunning Aquamarine.  Aquamarine is in the beryl family and is a silicate mineral found in rocks.  The Emerald stone is also in the beryl family.  Aquamarines come from the Latin phrase aqua marina, which means “water of the sea” and give off a pale blue color.  Aquamarines are common throughout the world and most prevalent in Asia and South America.

Aquamarine can be worn everyday and can range from 7.5 – 8 on the hardness scale.  Aquamarine’s looks great ring in earrings, rings and necklaces.  I love their sky blue color and think they look great year round!
