Welcome to February, another month closer to spring!
This month’s birthstone is the beautiful Amethyst stone. Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz. It is mostly found in Central & South America, specifically Brazil & Mexico. In terms of color, Amethyst can range from a light pinkish violet tone to a deep purple variety. Amethyst is a semi-precious stone and can be worn for everyday use. It is a 7 on the hardness scale (1-10) and is acceptable for everyday use. (In comparison, a diamond is a 10 on the hardness scale and a sapphire is a 9.)
I recommend amethysts for earrings, necklaces & rings. Amethysts are great for the fall and winter seasons. Amethysts are good for dress-up and special occasions, but are also great for everyday casual wear.
A fun fact:
According to ancient Greek mythology, the amethyst stone was supposed to prevent their owner from intoxication. As a result, many wine goblets were carved from amethyst so citizens could prevent public drunkenness and making a fool of themselves. (Hmm, maybe we should bring these back)
